PS3 overtakes Apple in battle for BBC iPlayer views

PS3's beyond-gaming bravado comes to fruition...

The Sony PlayStation 3 now accounts for more BBC iPlayer views than Apple computers according to figures released by the Beeb.

The PS3 now makes up 10 per cent of all iPlayer views with MacBooks and siblings now racking-up just 8.5 per cent of all visitors to the groundbreaking catch-up TV service. PCs still maintain a Google-sized monopoly with 70 per cent.

A heavy marketing campaign, pushing the iPlayer functionality, and a few technical and aesthetic tweaks means that more and more people are choosing the console to watch their favourite shows back on a HDTV rather than PC monitor.

The news is sure to put a smug grin on the faces of Sony executives after a stream of recent peeing contests between the two companies, mainly relating to the portable gaming market.
