Palm Pre UK teaser event scheduled for next week

The smartphone will be on show in the UK next week, but Palm still refuses to give an actual launch date

Palm's lovely looking Pre smartphone will be appearing in the UK in limited form next week at tech event PlayBite, where lucky attendess get to play with unreleased technology.

The Twitter feed of the PR company managing the Pre's launch is advertising the handset's presence at the event, telling the world in something approaching English...

"Wanna play with a Palm Pre? Come down to #playbite for that and tons of other cool news, views and a cheeky beer"

Thanks. We might just do that. Is it OK if we bring a video camera? And take some beers home with us?

You won't be able to buy one, have one or attempt to blag an upgrade to one, but you may be able to get near one and have a go on one if the demo machines aren't all in use.

The official Palm site is still running a promo for the Pre on its home page, stating that the phone is "coming soon" on O2. Exactly how soon "soon" is remains a mystery, but with Microsoft Exchange support for businessmen, GPS for taxi drivers and MP3-buying support via Amazon for the kids, Palm's Pre remains one of the country's most-wanted forthcoming smartphones despite the agonising wait.

So we're still officially going with October 30.
