Imation Mtron announces two SSDs

Imation has partnered with Mtron to bring solid state drives to masses. Under the "strategic relationship" Imation will introduce two disks -- MOBI 3000 powered by Mtron for mobile and notebook PC users, and PRO 7000 powered by Mtron for enterprise computing users. The first one is the "fastest consumer drive" providing read speeds of 100MB/s, write speeds of 80MB/s, random access time of 0.1ms, and low power consumption. The firm claims that the drive offers twice the boot speeds of current HDDs and works at significantly faster speeds for large rendering tasks such as multi-tasking, Photoshop and CAD.

The enterprise disk "PRO 7000" will reduce total cost of ownership by 45 percent as compared to conventional HDD-based systems, according to the firm. The solid state disk features 120MB/s (read) / 90MB/s (write) speed and random access time of less than 0.1ms. No word on pricing and availability.
