Coby Intros Cheapest HD Radio Receiver

HD radios haven't really become so popular for the simple reason of pricing. Pricey HD radio equipment has deterred most users from spending $200+ just to get a little extra digital stations. Coby, who make budget electronics, to come out with affordable HD radios, has considered the price factor. The entry-level $99 HDR-650 is touted, as "the most affordable HD Receiver on the market." The device is a small, speaker-less unit that is supposed to work in concurrence with an existing home stereo. It sports a brushed- aluminum housing with a white LCD display on the front for station information. It features simple controls across the top, and component audio outputs on the back.

The next level of HD Radio by Coby is the more advanced HDR-700. It features the same display and tuner, but comes with a built-in speaker and batteries to power it away from outlets. The batteries last for about five hours of play time. The device also sports a 3.5mm input jack for playing music from other sources, and an SD slot for playing MP3s directly.
Cody HDR-650 will sell for $99, the HDR-700 for $149. Both radios will debut in August.
