Elonex and Borders introduce the eBook

But will it still be around when the Kindle launches?
Recent rumour has suggested Amazon is currently in (so far unsuccessful) discussions with European mobile networks regarding a much overdue launch of the Amazon Kindle. It's not coming here in the very near future, but it's only a matter of time before the Kindle does land on these shores. So the clock is ticking for the competition, which now includes the Elonex eBook.

The slimline eBook has launched in conjunction with book chain borders, offering you both the hardware and a whopping 100 promotional downloads from Border's eBook Download Store. Sleek hardware, free books - what's not to like?

Well, if you want something individual, that could be an issue. The eBook is almost identical to the already-launched Cool-er , less the hip colour options. Which means a 9mm-thin device with 6-inch E-Ink screen and SD card slot with 4GB card, enough storage for 8,000 of your book downloads. But on the plus side, this is £10 cheaper at £189.95, presumably the cost of the paint job. If you want an Elonex eBook, head over to Borders to bag yourself one. Or wait for the Kindle, it'll be here soon. Honest.
