Blackberry Storm 2 confirmed

A big boss at RIM has said the company is planning a Blackberry Storm mark 2, in another attempt to attract the core consumer market.

Reuters is reporting that Jim Balsillie, RIM's co-CEO, told a group of investors and analysts of the plans on Monday, describing the first Storm as a "huge success in terms of sales and adoption".

We'd suggest that the next-gen Storm is more likely to be an attempt to right a number of wrongs that we, and many others, found with the first handset.

It was the first full touchscreen device from Blackberry and seen as the RIM's attempt to challenge the iPhone. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to expectations.

Despite that, the phone was still a commercial success, and if RIM does it right, it could have another great handset to add to the Blackberry fold.

There was no indication on a timescale for this project but rumours at the beginning of the month dated a Blackberry Storm 2 around September time.
