Virgin Galactic Mother Ship Eve Unveiled

Virgin Galactic and Sir Richard Branson need no introduction on our pages, we have covered the progress of their space odyssey quite extensively and it's now time for some more news. Recently the naming of mother ship was held. The aircraft White Knight Two was christened "Eve" after his mother Eve Branson. Already, more than 250 customers have paid $200,000 or paid deposits for the chance to board Virgin Galactic. The double-hulled "mother ship" is built to carry six passengers high into the stratosphere, from where the smaller ship would rocket into the blackness more than 60 miles above Earth. The mother ship has been described to look like two airplanes joined at the wing. The space capsule that the larger plane will carry has been covered with a huge piece of black fabric held in place by black sandbags. The capsule will hang between the two fuselages until it is released at 48,000 feet. It will then ignite its rocket engine, covering the next 300,000 feet in 90 seconds. The six passengers and two pilots will "pull" three Gs -- pushed back into their seats by three times the pull of gravity.

No one knows when Virgin Galactic Eve will fly.
