And The IDEA Goes To….

IDEA or International Design Excellence Awards is a competition that is run by the Industrial Designers Society of America and sponsored by BusinessWeek magazine. Here is a round up of some of the winners in this year's list, which includes 205 winners in all.

- iPhone wins a Gold in the Communications category.- MacBook Air, One Laptop per Child (OLPC), and Apple Wireless Keyboard win the Gold for Computer Equipment- Samsung's Design Touch concept won a gold medal for Communications Concept. It is a digital camera for the visually impaired.- U.S. company Knoend, produced a lamp called Lite2go Lamp that's made out of its own packaging. This design won the bronze medal.- MaxDoor by Brazil-based Nodesign features a doorknob fitted with a sensor that can be touched to open. A remote control device locks and unlocks the door, which is aluminum, but covered by a rubbery finish and rubber seals that block out noise. Red sensors spell out the house or apartment numbers, and a secret slot opens for mail delivery. This design won a Bronze Medal.
